Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie, the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, today issued the following statement on Small Business Week, which runs until October 22:
“Small Business Week provides us with a time to reflect upon and celebrate the tremendous energy and entrepreneurship demonstrated by small business owners throughout our country, and especially in Atlantic Canada.
Small businesses are the engine creating jobs and wealth in our rural and urban communities by employing thousands of Atlantic Canadians. Hence, our Government’s commitment is to support the efforts of small businesses by keeping their taxes low, encouraging innovation and fostering new of trade opportunities.
We have declared 2011 the Year of the Entrepreneur to highlight the vital role they play in the success of our country. On behalf of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and all residents of Atlantic Canada, I want to thank our small businesses owners and entrepreneurs for the valued role they play in improving our standard of living. I encourage them to continue growing our economy and creating jobs.”
