OTTAWA – November 4, 2011 - The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) is inviting the public to comment on the Comprehensive Study Report for the Detour Lake Gold Mine Project located in Ontario.
The Comprehensive Study Report includes the Agency’s conclusions and recommendations regarding the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures and whether or not the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
The Comprehensive Study Report and more information on this project are available on the Agency’s website at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca (registry reference number 10-03-52262). The document is also available in paper copy, by request.
Public comments received by December 1, 2011 will be considered.
This is the last of several public comment periods related to the environmental assessment of this project.
Detour Gold Corporation proposes to develop an open-pit gold mine on a previously mined (brown field) site located approximately 185 kilometres northeast of the Town of Cochrane, Ontario. The proposal includes an open pit mine, ore processing plant, tailings and waste rock storage facilities, site access roads, power transmission lines, explosives factory and magazines, water management facilities, buildings, ancillary mine infrastructure and associated activities.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the environmental effects of proposed projects and measures to address those effects, in support of sustainable development.
