Kamloops, British Columbia, November 8, 2011―Two federally funded projects will help local people with disabilities build the skills and experience they need to find and keep jobs.
Cathy McLeod, Member of Parliament for Kamloops–Thompson–Cariboo, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, today announced that NRI Distribution Inc. of Kamloops will receive support for two projects, Work Experience and Wage Subsidy, through the Government’s Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities.
“Jobs and growth are top priorities for our government. In today’s environment, it is more important than ever that all Canadians have the skills they need to participate and succeed in the job market,” said MP McLeod. “Through these projects, we are helping Canadians with disabilities maximize their potential and independence.”
NRI Distribution Inc. will provide three participants with work placements to gain work experience, enhance their employability skills and facilitate their integration into the labour market. The Government of Canada is providing over $9,200 in funding to be used for wages and special equipment.

The Wage Subsidy component of the Opportunities Fund is designed to help Canadians with disabilities who have little or no work experience and who are not eligible for Employment Insurance benefits. The Fund is available to employers to encourage them tohirepeople with disabilities.
The Work Experience component of the Opportunities Fund is designed to help Canadians with disabilities who have little or no work experience and who are not eligible for Employment Insurance benefits. The Fund is available to eligible organizations that provide opportunities for people with disabilities to gain paid or unpaidworkexperience leading to potential employment.
The Opportunities Fund is part of the Government of Canada’s strategy for building the most educated, most competent and most flexible workforce in the world. The government highlighted its commitment to this strategy in Canada’s Economic Action Plan. One of the key elements of the Plan consists of increasing and improving opportunities available to Canadian workers through skills development.
