Cape Breton’s Oakwood Manor was the recipient of the Tourism Atlantic Technology Award last night at the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia’s annual gala dinner. The award recognizes the company’s creative use of technology in their business operation.
“Our Government is pleased to support companies like Oakwood Manor who play an important role in our region’s economy and tourism sector,” said the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie. “The Atlantic Tourism Technology Award acknowledges and promotes the role that the innovative application of information technology plays in strengthening our tourism sector.”
Oakwood Manor has effectively integrated the use of information technology in its operations, introducing an interactive website for visitors, offering guests free Wi-Fi service and using social media to reach current and prospective customers.
“We are very excited to be recognized by ACOA for the effort we have made to improve the technology we use at the Manor,” said Hansel and Sharon McEvoy, Owners and Operators of Oakwood Manor. “We can see the benefit of this technology and look forward to the opportunities they present to grow our business further.”
ACOA created the Tourism Atlantic Technology Award in 2004 to recognize one tourism operator in each Atlantic province for their innovative and strategic use of technology that benefits both the individual business and the larger tourism industry.
The award was presented at the Crystal Tourism Award of Excellence Gala Dinner, which is the closing event of the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia’s annual conference.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA, supports the development of a strong tourism sector in Atlantic Canada through a pan-Atlantic approach that emphasizes research, product development and marketing.
