No. H104/11
For release - November 3, 2011
OTTAWA — Beginning on November 2, 2011, and for the next year, Transport Canada (TC) is celebrating its 75th anniversary as a department of the Government of Canada. The transportation needs of Canadians and industry have evolved rapidly, and TC has played a key role in that evolution.
"One of the most significant changes over the last 75 years has seen TC transition from the role of operator to leader and policy maker," said Minister Lebel. "Transport Canada works to promote a transportation system that is responsive to Canada's needs by ensuring safety, security, efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness across modes. We have faced, and will continue to face, this challenge head-on."
On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, TC is launching its Flickr account. In the past year, the department has also launched its social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. For the launch of its Flickr account, a slide show was created presenting the changes transportation has undergone in Canada. TC invites all Canadians to take a look and share with others.
TC has a history that is rich and has been key to developing the transportation network that connects Canadians from sea to sea to sea. Read about the milestones of this history in a special section on TC's website to learn more.
The department is proud of the solid foundation it has laid for Canadian transportation. Canadians can be confident that TC will continue to develop a transportation system that is accessible, safe, secure, efficient, environmentally responsible and, most of all, ready for the future.
