LOWER WEST PUBNICO, Nova Scotia - 18 November 2011 - Le Village historique acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse (Nova Scotia’s Historical Acadian Village), a popular tourism destination in South Western Nova Scotia, will boost its on- site infrastructure and technology with support from the Government of Canada. “Our Government is pleased to support this significant local attraction,” said West Nova MP Greg Kerr, on behalf of the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie. “Our investment will help to ensure ‘le Village’ will continue to attract residents and tourists alike for years to come, celebrating the vibrant Acadian heritage and culture in our region.”
ACOA’s investment of $57,652 through the Innovative Communities Fund will add additional on-site tourism infrastructure including a 1-kilometre board walk, a storage facility, new interpretive panels, and the incorporation of Quick Response (QR) codes and smart phone technology to add new depth of engagement to visitors.
“These changes will improve the visitor experience and ultimately, our operational sustainability,” said Rita d’Entremont, President and Chair of le Village historique acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse. “By embracing both our tradition and the new technologies available today, we are offering a high-quality tourism and education experience.”
The project is also being supported by investments from the Government of Nova Scotia ($36,000) and the Municipality of the District of Argyle ($2,000).
“This investment shows the province’s support for both the tourism industry, and Southwest Nova Scotia,” said Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Percy Paris. “Harnessing innovation is an important part of jobsHere, the plan to grow our economy, and this new technology will enhance visitor experiences, encourage longer stays and create repeat business.”
