London, Ontario, December 16, 2011– Federal and provincial representatives today joined board members, staff and clients of Hutton House Association for Adults with Disabilities today to celebrate the recent expansion of their Wonderland Road facilities.
Work on the building's interior included rehabilitating and expanding program spaces, training, and meeting rooms to increase capacity and improve accessibility for clients. Exterior improvements included developing accessible green space and replacing the existing patio. Hutton House promotes and supports persons with disabilities through learning and life enhancing programs that focus on each individual's strengths, abilities and interests.
"Our Government is proud to support Hutton House, a key organization that helps those with disabilities to be strong and independent members of our community,"
said Ed Holder, Member of Parliament for London West, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure, and Communities. "Thanks to Canada's Economic Action Plan, updated facilities will enable Hutton House to expand its programs and services, which means that more people can receive assistance and opportunities to participate fully in daily life.
"
"This improved facility will provide greater access and opportunities for individuals living with disabilities to grow and lead healthy, active lives,"
said the Honourable Chris Bentley, Member of Provincial Parliament for London West.
"We are so pleased with our newly expanded space which enables us to provide new day program opportunities such as wellness and nutrition. Our capacity to deliver services in a pleasant, safe and supportive environment has been improved significantly,"
notes Marilyn Neufeld, Executive Director for Hutton House.
The governments of Canada and Ontario are each contributing one-third of total eligible project costs, up to a maximum of $256,250 each. Hutton House Association for Adults with Disabilities is contributing the balance of the total eligible project cost of $768,750.
Government of Canada support for this project comes from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. Thanks to Canada's Economic Action Plan and our strong economic and financial fundamentals, the Canadian economy has recovered from the global recession better than most other industrialized countries. Canada has been a leader amongst G-7 countries throughout the recovery with nearly 600,000 net new jobs created since July 2009.
This project supports Building Together, Ontario's long-term infrastructure plan to repair, rebuild and renew the province's roads and highways, bridges, public transit, schools and postsecondary institutions, hospitals and courthouses. Ontario is investing $12.8 billion in infrastructure projects in 2011-12, bringing the government's total infrastructure investments since 2003 to $75 billion. Building modern, efficient infrastructure has created or preserved close to 100,000 jobs each year, on average, making Ontario's economy more productive and improving quality of life, now and in the future.
