Ottawa, Ontario, December 15, 2011—Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Labour Minister, congratulated Seaspan Marine Corporation and the Canadian Merchant Service Guild on successfully ratifying a new collective agreement. Negotiated agreements are in the best interest of the organization, its employees, businesses and the Canadian economy.
“I commend Seaspan Marine Corporation and the Canadian Merchant Service Guild for working closely together to reach a new agreement,” said Minister Raitt. “Strong labour‑management relations benefit Canada’s economic prosperity and security.”
Seaspan Marine Corporation is a marine transportation company that operates along the North American West Coast and provides ship docking and tug and towing services to Port Metro Vancouver. The Canadian Merchant Service Guild represents a unit of approximately 230 sailing masters, mates and engineers.
