Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke this morning with Mr. Mariano Rajoy and provided personal congratulations to him on his election victory and imminent appointment as Prime Minister of Spain. The Prime Ministers discussed the ongoing economic and financial crisis in the Eurozone and the need for concerted actions on the part of Europe to address the challenges at hand. They also talked about the importance of concluding a Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement in 2012. Prime Minister Harper underscored the close relations enjoyed between Spain and Canada and that he looked forward to an early opportunity to meet with Mr. Rajoy in person to discuss a number of bilateral and global issues.
