18 January 2012 - CAMPBELLTON, New Brunswick - The Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie, the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, and the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Campbellton-Restigouche-Centre, Greg Davis, joined by the Mayor of Campbellton, Bruce MacIntosh, announced today a major investment for the City of Campbellton. The project consists of replacing the water system and the wastewater collection system along Roseberry Street, between Subway and Andrew streets.
"The water lines and water services in this district are over 99 years old. They no longer meet modern needs and requirements. This investment will have a direct impact on the quality of services offered to citizens and businesses in Campbellton, not to mention provide better environmental protection," said Minister Valcourt, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. "In addition, this project will create economic activity in Campbellton this summer, once the work begins."
“This infrastructure project is very important for the city’s downtown business core as it will replace an old and brittle water system,” said Davis on behalf of Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud and Environment Minister Margaret Ann Blaney.
“The citizens of the City of Campbellton and City Council would like to take this opportunity to thank Minister Bernard Valcourt, Minister Paul Robichaud and certainly MLA Greg Davis for the funding which will improve our downtown business community,” said Mayor MacIntosh.
The governments of Canada and New Brunswick are each investing $462,786 in the project through the Building Canada Fund, Communities component. The municipality of Campbellton will invest $462,787. Funding for this project is contingent on the completion of all contractual agreements.
