Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark Seollal, the Korean New Year.:
“Laureen and I extend our warmest wishes to those celebrating the Korean New Year in Canada and around the world.
“Seollal is an opportunity to take part in honoured traditions, spend time with friends and family members and look forward to the year to come.
“The Korean community brings a rich and diverse culture to Canada, and Korean-Canadians continue to make important contributions to our country.
“That is why through projects such as renovations to the Calgary Korean Association – funded in part under Canada’s Economic Action Plan – we are helping to ensure that the Korean community cultivates and retains its heritage and traditions, while participating actively in Canadian society.
“In addition, our government continues to foster the positive relationship between Canada and Korea by expanding trade and cultural ties.
“On behalf of Laureen and our family, may you be filled health, happiness and prosperity now and in the year to come.
“새해 복 많이 받으세요.”
