VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA (February 27, 2012) – The Honourable John Duncan, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, attended the 19th annual National Aboriginal Achievement Awards (NAAA) gala in Vancouver, British Columbia, Friday night where he joined in the celebrations to honour 15 exceptional Canadians.
"It is an honour to attend the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards and to acknowledge the outstanding career achievements of this year's recipients. The recipients are not only role models and leaders in their First Nation, Inuit and Métis communities, but also for all Canadians," said Minister Duncan. "I would like to extend my sincerest congratulations to all of the award winners. I would also like to acknowledge my Cabinet colleague, Minister Aglukkaq. She is a deserving recipient of this prestigious award."
This year's recipients have made contributions in the areas of health, law, political science, culture and the arts.
The NAAA, founded in 1993, recognizes, encourages and celebrates excellence in First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities across Canada and highlights excellence and achievements within the Aboriginal community.
