Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the nomination of Anne-Marie Robinson as the new President of the Public Service Commission of Canada.
Ms. Robinson has been serving as acting President of the Public Service Commission since January 1, 2012. During a public sector career that has spanned 22 years, Ms. Robinson has held positions of increasing scope and responsibility, including Director General (Policy and Litigation) and Vice-President (Corporate Management Branch) at the Public Service Commission, as well as Assistant Deputy Minister (First Nations and Inuit Health Branch) and Associate Deputy Minister of Health.
“Anne-Marie Robinson is well-qualified to assume the role of President of the Public Service Commission,” said the Prime Minister. “She brings to the position an in-depth knowledge of the public sector, including a profound understanding of the mandate and operations of the Public Service Commission. I am pleased that she agreed to be nominated for this position.”
The Prime Minister took the opportunity to thank former President Maria Barrados for her dedication, diligence and sound leadership during her tenure, and to wish her well in her future endeavours. Ms. Barrados served as President of the Public Service Commission from November 2003 to December 2011.
The Public Service Commission’s mission is to safeguard the integrity of staffing in the federal public service and the political impartiality of federal public servants.
As set out in the Public Service Employment Act, this appointment must be approved by resolution of the Senate and the House of Commons.
