In an awards ceremony held in Toronto on February 13, 2012, SSHRC took home bronze in the Federal/Provincial/Territorial category of the 2011 IPAC/Deloitte Public Sector Leadership Awards. Established in 2008, the IPAC/Deloitte leadership awards recognize innovative and high-performing public sector organizations. This year, SSHRC was recognized for the transformative work it has done to renew its program architecture, moving from some thirty separately branded funding programs to a streamlined and integrated suite of funding opportunities under three programs: Talent, Insight and Connection.
While SSHRC was the only federal agency named as a top finalist in this year’s competition, the Council was in the company of two major provincial projects. The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care received the gold award for itsAC work on reducing ER wait times. Silver went to the BC Ministry of Labour, Citizens’ Services and Open Government for its work on open government transformation.
SSHRC also celebrated SSHRC Council Member Nelson Michaud’s win in the education category. Michaud heads the École nationale d’administration publique, which got the nod for its work to develop young leaders in the public service.
