CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY
Prime Minister Stephen Harper made the following remarks in Seoul, South Korea:
“This Summit has brought together more than 50 like-minded nations to protect the world from nuclear terrorism, one of the most challenging threats to global security today.
“Canada is a world leader in this fight and we are proud of our record.
“Two years ago, alongside President Obama and President Calderon, I announced that Canada would help fund two important North American priorities.
“These are the conversion of Mexico’s research reactor to low enriched uranium and the return of the old highly enriched nuclear material from Mexico to the United States.
“And here in Seoul, I was pleased to announce that this project is now complete, however, our work is not done.
“Alongside our allies, Canada is committed to securing nuclear material from around the world.
“We’re supporting the repatriation of highly enriched uranium from Vietnam which should be completed by 2013.
“We’re continuing to return highly enriched uranium from Canada to the United States.
“And today, I announced that Canada is renewing our Global Partnership Program to 2018.
“I am pleased that this Summit will continue the momentum begun by Canada a decade ago in Kananaskis.
“And once again, I’d like to thank President Lee and the Korean people for hosting us here once again in Seoul, this is our third visit and the hospitality is always excellent, we appreciate it.”
