Montréal, Quebec, May 14, 2012 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that the Government of Canada is supporting two prelaunch activities related to the Innovation District (Quartier de l’innovation – QI), namely, the establishment of a joint secretariat and a study on QI attraction factors for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
“By supporting the project of l’École de technologie supérieure, the Government of Canada is once again demonstrating its commitment to the economic growth, built in particular on innovation, of the Montréal region,”
said Minister Lebel.
The Innovation District, a joint initiative of l’École de technologie supérieure, and McGill University, will bring together companies, training centres, incubators and applied research units in one geographic space. This consolidation will create a synergy, encouraging increased competitiveness and productivity, new business start-ups and, in addition, the economic growth of the Montréal area and Quebec as a whole.
This $350,000 in non-repayable funding has been granted under Canada Economic Development’s Business and Regional Growth program.
