Ottawa, May 4, 2012—The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for Science and Technology, spoke today at the Canadian Association of Science Centres' (CASC) 10th annual conference in Ottawa.
In his address, the Minister of State congratulated the CASC on its public engagement and education activities, and he underscored the government's ongoing commitment to making Canada a world leader in research and innovation.
"Our government supports young people in developing an interest in science and technology. When young people develop interests in science, research and technology, they are securing our future," said Minister of State Goodyear. "I commend the CASC on more than 25 years of promoting science education and building a culture of science in Canada."
The CASC (formerly the Canadian Council of Science Centres) was founded in 1985 to create synergy among Canada's science centres and science-related museums. The association represents more than 40 science centres and 20 affiliate supporters, which include approximately 1,500 staff and 10,000 volunteers.
The conference is being held at the Canada Science and Technology Museum from May 3 to 5, 2012. It features more than 20 learning sessions, a trade show and a national awards gala. The theme for this year's conference is Energy @ the Centre. For more information, visit the CASC conference website.
