Today, I want to acknowledge and thank the millions of people who selflessly contribute to global humanitarian and development efforts through the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The Red Cross and Crescent play a pivotal role in responding to debilitating health issues and providing humanitarian assistance in conflict and disaster zones.
Canada is proud to be a friend and partner of the Red Cross and Crescent and appreciates the help the Movement gives to people, in times of need. In 2010, during the chaotic days following the Haiti earthquake and the Pakistan floods, the Canadian Red Cross showed tremendous efficiency and leadership.
On World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, Canada thanks the 100 million members, volunteers and supporters of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for their devotion to people in need.
