Toronto – From June 12th-14th, 2012, the Toronto Police Service, Toronto Fugitive Squad and the United States Marshalls Service will be co-hosting the 14th Annual International Fugitive Investigators Conference. This event has countries participating from around the world and recognizes the outstanding work of investigators who apprehend fugitives through international cooperation.
This year, Detective Patrick Rocheleau, a Sûreté du Quebec officer on assignment with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s INTERPOL Ottawa, is being awarded the International Fugitive Apprehension Award for his work on a joint investigation that led to the arrest of an international fugitive. In 1997, the individual was the subject of a murder investigation in Riguad, Quebec and INTERPOL Ottawa published a Red Notice for the accused in 2003 which was renewed in 2008. Having evaded authorities for thirteen years the subject was located and arrested in Florida, US in June 2011. The collaboration of INTERPOL Lyon, the Toronto Police Service, US Marshalls and extensive work of INTERPOL Ottawa led to the success of this investigation.
Det. Rocheleau was chosen for this recognition from submissions from all INTERPOL member countries due to the outstanding cooperation achieved between foreign policies agencies that resulted in an international fugitive being brought to justice.
