St. John’s – On behalf of Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Peter Penashue, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada, attended the Change of Command Parade of the 37 Canadian Brigade Group in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Our Government is proud to pay tribute to the men and women who have served and continue to serve our great nation by defending our values of peace, freedom, democracy and the rule of law,” said Minister Blaney. “The significant contributions made by our Veterans and still-serving Canadian Armed Forces personnel, like those in the 37 Canadian Brigade Group, have helped shape Canada’s identity and protected our sovereignty.”
“It is truly an honour to be here this afternoon to meet some of our local men and women who courageously serve Canada, both here at home and abroad, in times of war and peace,” said Minister Penashue. “Our Government is proud to participate in ceremonies such as today’s Change of Command Parade in St. John’s, to further foster knowledge, respect and understanding of the military experience.”
The Change of Command Parade included an inspection by Reviewing Officer, Brigadier-General C.C. Thurrott, OMM, MSM, Commander Land Force Atlantic Area, and a change of appointment of the Brigade Commander.
Regular and Reserve soldiers of the 37 Canadian Brigade Group have provided assistance in the aftermath of domestic natural disasters and aviation tragedies. These dedicated and professional soldiers have also provided security and stabilization on overseas missions and have supported humanitarian work crucial to eliminating threats to international peace and security.
