OTTAWA, ONTARIO (June 7, 2012) – The Honourable John Duncan, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, issued the following statement for the graduation ceremony of the Keewaytinook Internet High School:
"I send my sincerest congratulations to you, the Keewaytinook Internet High School graduates of 2012. On this very special day, I want to also take the time to acknowledge your family and friends, who have supported you throughout your education.
The Keewaytinook Internet High School is the first of its kind in Ontario, and through this innovative approach to education you are part of a unique group of First Nation students who have had the opportunity to complete high school by internet, while remaining in your own community – a truly 21st century education.
Education is the foundation of a brighter future and each of you has taken an important step on the path to success. Many decisions lie ahead and I'm sure you are all eager to move forward in achieving your career aspirations.
Now that you have graduated, you have opened many doors to your future and can pursue more learning opportunities, including post-secondary education. It can be vital in helping you gain new skills and knowledge necessary to be part of the future workforce.
Again, congratulations to each and every one of you on your outstanding accomplishments. I wish you continued success in your education and career goals as you continue your journey into the future."
