OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, presented the insignia of Officer of the Order of Canada to Mr. Yuli Turovsky, during a private ceremony in Montréal, Quebec, on June 11, 2012. Mr. Turovsky was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada on November 3, 2011.

Cellist and orchestral conductor, Yuli Turovsky has promoted Canada's musical excellence. Founder, and former director of I Musici de Montréal chamber orchestra, and more recently founding artistic director of the Nouvelle Génération chamber orchestra, he has channelled his tireless energy and choice of repertoire into reinvigorating chamber music. He has performed with major Canadian and international orchestras as a guest soloist and has distinguished himself through his teaching, notably with the Université de Montréal's faculty of music, where he has trained several renowned cellists.
