Ottawa, Ontario, July 30, 2012—Today, Mr. Douglas Stanley, arbitrator appointed to the labour dispute between Air Canada and the Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA), has rendered his decision thereby ending the dispute between the parties.
“I respect the decision made by Mr. Stanley and am glad that the dispute between Air Canada and the ACPA has reached a conclusion that will ensure stability for the economy, and Canadians” said Minister Raitt. “ I thank Mr. Stanley for settling the outstanding matters in this labour dispute in a timely manner”, added Minister Raitt.
Air Canada’s final offer will constitute the collective agreement between both parties until March 31, 2016. The previous collective agreement covering approximately 3 000 pilots expired on March 31, 2011.
On March 15, 2012, Bill C-33: An Act to provide for the continuation and resumption of air service operations received Royal Assent, effectively putting an end to the dispute and included a provision for the appointment of an arbitrator. Mr. Stanley, who was suggested as a candidate by both Air Canada and the ACPA, was appointed on May 1, 2012.
