Saint-Irénée, Quebec, July 4, 2012 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that Le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix Inc. has been granted financial assistance to improve its seasonal lodging facilities and optimize the tourism experience provided by this unique site dedicated to music, dance and the performing arts.
“The Government of Canada supports initiatives that, like this Domaine Forget project, strengthen Canada’s drawing power as a prime tourist destination and help the industry play a role as a driving economic force that fosters job creation and growth in all regions,” said Minister Lebel.
Located on a vast, 150-acre historical property in the Charlevoix region, Domaine Forget is made up of an international music and dance academy recognized world-wide for the quality of its teaching, and an international music festival that features high-level concerts, master classes and musical brunches.
This leading institution contributes to the cultural and tourism vitality and reach of the Charlevoix region, of Quebec and of Canada. The first phase of the project will involve building a 30-room residence for students and renovating and converting the existing dormitories into accommodations for faculty and staff. The second phase will include improving the site’s tourism offering through the introduction of new information technologies. These planned upgrades and additions are aimed at ensuring both the quality of the cultural and tourism experience for visitors and the sustainability of this important regional asset.
This $1,220,000 in non-repayable funding is awarded through Canada Economic Development’s Quebec Economic Development Program.
