Alma, New Brunswick, July 13, 2012 -- On behalf of the Honourable Peter Kent, Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, the Honourable Rob Moore, Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, today led a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the reconstructed Bennett Lake Dam at Fundy National Park and announce the completion of work done on Highway 114.
“Above and beyond the appealing design, the significant feature of Bennett Lake Dam is that it serves to enhance fish populations by allowing fish to cross the dam and access the lake,” explained Mr. Moore. “Improvements to Highway 114 benefit local residents, as well as visitors to the area, resulting in a safer and more comfortable drive through Fundy National Park.”
Improvements to Bennett Lake dam help Fundy National Park meet the Parks Canada Agency’s goals of protecting and presenting the natural and cultural heritage of our national treasures. On the coast of the Bay of Fundy, home to the highest tides in the world, Fundy National Park offers and exceptional array of experiences to its visitors.
“The improvements to Bennett Lake Dam, with a trail that now connects with the Bennett Brook hiking trail, provide better visitor access to enjoy the beauty of the Acadian forest and the Caledonia Highlands,” said Minister Kent. “The reconstruction of the dam is also a reflection of the Government of Canada’s commitment to maintaining the Park’s ecological health, to ensuring public safety and to enhancing visitor experience.”
