A federal-provincial investment of close to $6.5 million
Saint-Apollinaire, Quebec, July 27, 2012 – Sports enthusiasts in Saint-Apollinaire rejoiced as Jacques Gourde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Works and Government Services, for Official Languages and for the Economic Development Agency for the Regions of Quebec and Member of Parliament for Lotbinière—Chutes-de-la-Chaudière, Laurent Lessard, Quebec Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy and Minister responsible for the region of Chaudière-Appalaches, along with Ginette Moreau, Mayor of the Municipality of Saint-Apollinaire, announced today that the project for a multipurpose centre in Saint-Apollinaire is being considered as a priority for funding under the Major Infrastructure Component of the Building Canada Fund.

said MP Gourde. "This new facility will greatly expand the recreational opportunities available for residents of all ages, while creating local jobs and contributing to the local economy."

declared Minister Laurent Lessard.
The future project would include the construction of a two-floor, approximately 5,000 square metre multipurpose centre with a double gymnasium, change rooms, multipurpose rooms and office space, as well as a parking lot and outdoor landscaping.
Under the Major Infrastructure Component of the Building Canada Fund, the Government of Canada is setting aside up to one-third of total eligible costs, to a maximum federal contribution of $3.23 million. The total cost of the project is estimated at $9.7 million, with up to $3.23 million funded by the Province, and the balance of $3.24 million provided by the Municipality of Saint-Apollinaire.
Federal funding is conditional upon the completion of a federal review of the project, the completion of environment assessments and implementation of recommendations if required under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (2012), and the signing of a contribution agreement.
The Government of Quebec’s contribution comes from the Plan québécois des infrastructures, which now has a budget of close to $44.18 billion for the period of 2011 to 2016, of which $2.7 billion to maintain and upgrade or renew Quebec's municipal infrastructure.
