“I congratulate the people of Ukraine as they celebrate the 21st anniversary of their independence.
“Canada is proud to commemorate strong relations with Ukraine based on our shared history, significant commercial links and extensive people-to-people ties.
“Our relationship with Ukraine is a special one. For more than a century, Ukranian-Canadians have been instrumental in the growth of our nation, fiercely proud of their roots and their traditions, and determined to play their part in the development of this country.
“Canada will continue to support the Ukrainian people as they seek to build a nation based on democracy, human rights and the rule of law.”
