“On the occasion of the 18th International Day of the World's Indigenous People, I am proud to reaffirm Canada's commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of Indigenous peoples at home and abroad.
Aboriginal peoples are an essential part of Canada's history and identity. With Aboriginal youth as the fastest growing segment of Canada's population, the future prosperity of our country depends on the contribution of Aboriginal peoples. Our Government has made it a priority to renew and strengthen our relationship with all Aboriginal people in Canada and their communities to support economic growth and participation in the workforce.
I invite all Canadians to take this opportunity to recognize this important day, and the role of Aboriginal peoples in Canada's past, present and future.”
