Ottawa, Ontario, September 12, 2012—Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Labour Minister, congratulated Candu Energy Inc. and the Society of Professional Engineers and Associates (SPEA) on ratifying a new collective agreement.
“I am very pleased that Candu Energy and that SPEA have reached an agreement, as the best decision is one the parties reach themselves,” said Minister Raitt. “Strong labour‑management relations benefit the economic prosperity and security of Canadians.”
The new collective agreement is valid until December 31, 2016, and covers a unit of about 675 scientific and engineering employees and a unit of about 230 technicians and technologists. Employees under this collective agreement design and deliver reactor technology and provide plant life management, life extension services and regular maintenance to existing nuclear power stations.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program’s Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
