Today, Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding towards the Rabbit Lake Recreation Centre upgrades under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities,
" said Minister Ritz. "By improving facilities such as the Rabbit Lake Recreation Centre, we are strengthening the community and maintaining a high quality of life for Canadians.
"
Federal funding of $17,250 will help the community install energy efficient furnaces, a hot water heater and new flooring, paint the lobby, and upgrade the washrooms and exterior doors. These upgrades will make the facility more energy efficient, reduce operating costs, and make it safer for Rabbit Lake and area residents.
"The upgrades to the Rabbit Lake Recreation Centre ensure continued sustainability for families, youth and seniors to participate in various forms of recreation,
" said Alan Laughlin, Rabbit Lake village councillor. "Such increased activities foster increased health, social and fitness benefits not only in the present, but for the foreseeable future.
"
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
