Edmonton, Alberta
Today, the Honourable Tim Uppal, Minister of State for Democratic Reform and Member of Parliament for Edmonton-Sherwood Park, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding towards rehabilitating the Fraser Community League Hall under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, is continuing to create economic activity across Canada," said Minister Uppal. "By investing in this public space, we are creating local jobs and economic growth in the community while enhancing the benefits of recreational programs and services for families and local residents."
Federal funding of $11,300 will be utilized for maintenance and repairs to the Fraser Community League Hall. The upgrades will help to increase the lifespan of the building, while ensuring that it continues to be a safe and clean facility for public use.
"It would be difficult to upgrade and enhance the community hall without support from the federal government," said Kent Schick, Treasurer of the Fraser Community League. "We can now look forward to a more viable community hall that meets the present and future needs of the Fraser community."
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
