Nampa, Alberta
Today, Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding towards the Nampa and District Agricultural Society, under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities," said MP Warkentin. "By improving facilities such as this, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians."
Federal funding of $53,007 will support renovations to the Nampa Complex. Electrical upgrades and the installation of new windows will improve the energy efficiency of the facility, while interior upgrades and roof repairs will increase the long-term sustainability of the Complex.
"In 1973, members of the community built a facility that included an arena, curling rink and community hall to enhance the quality of life for residents of the Village of Nampa and the surrounding rural area," said Audrey Gall, Vice-President of the Nampa & District Agricultural Society. "Now, 40 years later, the current board for the Nampa and District Agricultural Society is using funding from CIIF to improve the energy efficiency of the aging building and improve its appearance for the continued benefit of the community."
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
