Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. Today, Rob Clarke, Member of Parliament for Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the Flying Dust First Nation under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud to see the Flying Dust First Nation benefit from our Government’s commitment to renewing and improving community spaces,
" said MP Clarke. "This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come.
"
Federal funding of $54,400 will go towards improvements to the Flying Dust arena which hosts recreational, cultural and community development programs and services for northwest Saskatchewan. Upgrades will include installing heaters, dehumidifiers and flooring. These upgrades will enhance air quality and safety, and control moisture in the facility.
"Flying Dust First Nation is extremely proud of this facility, and the purposeful use that it has for both First Nation and non-First Nations citizens,
" said Chief Jim Norman. "We would like to thank Western Economic Diversification for its contribution of $54,400. These funds will enable year-round use of this facility. Installation of the components to increase air quality and safety will make every experience at Pine Ridge Ford Center a great one, ensuring a long and productive life for our arena. The Flying Dust First Nation is a progressive community that provides various opportunities for its membership.
"
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
