Today, Ray Boughen Member of Parliament for Palliser, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for Pense’s baseball diamond under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud to see Pense benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,
" said MP Boughen. "Not only will this investment help create jobs and growth, it will also help support community sustainability for years to come.
"
Upgrades to the ball diamond will include resurfacing both the in- and out-fields, as well as replacing the backstop. New amenities to be constructed are shelters for the players’ benches, sideline fences, and extra seating for spectators which will create a safer and more comfortable atmosphere at the facility. The Harper Government will provide $14,598 in funding to support these job-creating improvements that will benefit the local economy.
"In recent years, many Saskatchewan communities, Pense included, have been focusing their efforts and funds on needed upgrades to aging infrastructure,
" said Mayor Michele LeBlanc. "However, keeping sports and recreation facilities in good condition is also crucial as it is these assets that bind the community together and promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Our only ball diamond is used by residents of all ages to play baseball and T-ball. The Town of Pense is extremely pleased to have been approved for funding from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
