North Vancouver, British Columbia. Today, Andrew Saxton, Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board and for Western Economic Diversification, and Member of Parliament for North Vancouver, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for upgrades to the plumbing system at the Silver Harbour Seniors' Activity Centre under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“By improving facilities such as this we are helping to boost economic activity while improving and renewing local facilities that benefit North Vancouver residents,
” said MP Saxton. “With today’s investment, our Government is demonstrating our commitment to creating jobs, growth and long-term economic prosperity.
”
With over $10,000 in federal funding, the Silver Harbour Seniors' Centre Society will replace leaking hot water pipes and recirculation lines in the Seniors' Activity Centre. The Society will also complete necessary asbestos abatement and disposal, and drywall repairs. Not only will these new components replace aging ones, but they will increase safety and energy efficiency of the hot water pipes in the facility.
“Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre offers more than 70 different recreational programs and social services to local seniors,
” commented Executive Director Annwen Loverin. “However, we struggle with an aging facility and need to make capital repairs where these are required for the safe operation of the building. We are delighted that the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund will support this major plumbing repair.
”
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
