Today, LaVar Payne, Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for upgrades to Strathcona Island Park under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud to see the City of Medicine Hat benefit from our Government’s support for local infrastructure,
" said MP Payne. "This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come.
"
Federal funding of $62,500 is helping the City of Medicine Hat make renovations to the washroom facilities in Strathcona Island Park while creating local jobs. The modernized design will improve safety and access for individuals with limited mobility.
"Strathcona Island Park is a popular year-round destination for residents of Medicine Hat. We are pleased that we will be able to upgrade the park’s facilities to be accessible to all members of our community,
" said City of Medicine Hat Mayor Norm Boucher.
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
