Today, Ray Boughen, Member of Parliament for Palliser, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for upgrades to the playground and paddling pool at Elgin Park under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities,” said MP Boughen. “By improving community facilities such as Elgin Park, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians.”
Children and their parents visiting Elgin Park will soon be able to enjoy a new, safer playground structure thanks to $128,510 in federal funding. The new equipment will be constructed from steel and will replace the current wooden equipment. The funding will also improve the park’s paddling pool which will be converted to a spray pool, an increasingly popular way for kids to beat the heat on hot summer days.
“This funding allows the City of Moose Jaw to enhance the planned upgrades to Elgin Park and move forward with the project sooner than originally planned,” said Mayor Deb Higgins. “In a busy park such as Elgin, these improvements will be enjoyed for years to come.”
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
