OTTAWA — The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Mr. Garfield Moffatt to the board of Marine Atlantic Inc. for a three year term.
"I am pleased that Mr. Moffatt has agreed to serve on the board of Marine Atlantic," said Minister Lebel. "His wealth of experience in financial services and insurance, and skills in strategic planning, will be of great benefit to the corporation."
Mr. Moffatt has been president of MacLellan & Moffatt Financial Inc., in Truro, Nova Scotia, since 1993 and is a chartered life underwriter and certified financial planner. Before then, in 1997, he co-founded Executive Financial Inc., an Atlantic Canada managing general agency connecting insurance companies with brokers.
Mr. Moffatt began his career in the insurance industry in Nova Scotia at Sun Life Financial in the Annapolis Valley, where he worked from 1988 to 1993. He has also served on the Producers Advisory Council for Sun Life Financial from 1997 to 2002 as well as the President's Advisory Board for IQON Financial from 2002 to 2006, among others. Mr. Moffatt holds a bachelor of Business Administration from Acadia University.
Marine Atlantic Inc. is a federal Crown corporation that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. The corporation provides a constitutionally mandated passenger and commercial marine transportation service between the Island of Newfoundland and the Province of Nova Scotia. Its mission is to provide a safe, environmentally responsible and quality ferry service in a reliable and cost-effective manner.
