Across the country, community centres, cultural centres, hockey rinks, swimming pools, and other community projects will soon be improved thanks to support from the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
As part of the Government's Economic Action Plan 2012, the Honourable Mike Lake, Member of Parliament for Edmonton—Mill Woods—Beaumont and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library under the Fund.
"It is great to see Beaumont benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,
" said MP Lake. "Investments like this across the country are helping to create jobs and growth, and will improve the quality of life in Canadian communities for years to come.
"
The Harper Government's investment of $20,250 will enhance the services provided by the Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library and will create local jobs. This project will result in better storage solutions for books and equipment, providing visitors and staff with improved access to popular materials in the Library.
"The Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library is very grateful for the support of the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,
" said Martin Walters, Manager of the Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library. "With the assistance of this funding, the residents of Beaumont will enjoy a public library facility that provides more than just access to information - a genuine community centre for mind and spirit.
"
"The Friends of the Beaumont Library are pleased to work together with the Federal Government and the Town of Beaumont Library Board to contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library,
" said Claire Spink, Chair of the Friends of the Beaumont Library. "We very much appreciate the funding that the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund has provided, which will help improve the Library's shelving. This project will allow our Library Manager to creatively expand the facility's collection and programs, in order to better serve a community that has doubled in size since the building was constructed approximately 10 years ago.
"
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
