OTTAWA—On Monday, February 18, 2013, in celebration of Family Day, families are invited to visit Rideau Hall, the Governor General’s official residence in Ottawa, and to skate on its exterior skating rink.
Guided tours of the residence will be offered in English and in French on the hour, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The skating rink will be open to the public from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m., ice conditions permitting.
Both activities are free of charge and no reservations are required.
About Rideau Hall Skating Rink
The first skating rink was established during the mandate of Lord Dufferin, Canada’s third governor general (1872-1878). To this day, the rink is in the same location and still used for public skating during the winter. The cabin, where guests can put on their skates and warm up, was built in the 1960s.
