On February 1, 2013, Violet Camsell-Blondin was reappointed Chairperson of the Wek’èezhìi Land and Water Board (WLWB) for a term of three years effective February 1, 2013.
Ms. Camsell-Blondin, from Behchoko, Northwest Territories, was first appointed to the Wek'eezhii Land and Water Board Working Group in January 2005. In February 2007, she was appointed as Chairperson of the Board and reappointed on February 2, 2010.
Ms. Camsell-Blondin was born and raised in Rae (now Behchoko) and is a Tlicho citizen. She attended high school in Yellowknife and completed a General Management Certificate program through the University of Lethbridge as well as numerous business and community administration courses. Ms. Camsell-Blondin is currently the Executive Director of the Rae-Edzo Friendship Centre.
Before being appointed to the WLWB, Ms. Camsell-Blondin was the resource coordinator for the Dogrib Renewable Resources Committee. She was also a member of the West Kitikmeot/Slave Study Society, a partnership of Aboriginal and environmental organizations, government and industry that employed traditional knowledge and scientific research to study the effects of development on the environment, wildlife and people of the West Kitikmeot/Slave region. Ms. Camsell-Blondin also served as the Executive Director for the Dogrib Treaty 11 Council and provided administrative support for the finalization of the Tlicho Land Claims and Self-Government Agreement .
