Frank Fagan is an active volunteer, philanthropist and retired executive. He is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Health Care Foundation of St. John's and a governor of Junior Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador Business Hall of Fame. Mr. Fagan has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN).
Mr. Fagan had a successful career in the telecommunications sector spanning 46 years, prior to his retirement from the role of Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Bell Aliant in 2008. He continues to be an active member of the non-profit business community, namely as a member of the Board of Island Furniture and of the Board of EverGreen Environmental.
Throughout the years, Mr. Fagan has dedicated himself to making a difference in his community and across Newfoundland and Labrador. He has been a minor hockey and soccer coach, a Cub leader and the vice-president and president of the Avalon Minor Hockey Association. Mr. Fagan is also a founding member of the Literacy Foundation and chairman and president of the Telecom Pioneers of America, as well as a strong supporter for the integration of people with developmental disabilities into the workforce and the community. In the arts, he has held leadership roles with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Terra Nova Chamber Players, and the Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador. Furthermore, he and his wife established the Frank and Pat Fagan Family Scholarship for Academic Excellence and Community Leadership in the Field of Medicine, a $5,000 annual scholarship at MUN.
Mr. Fagan has been honoured on many occasions for his contributions to his community and to the telecommunications sector. In 2011, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada for his contributions as a volunteer, community leader and philanthropist. In addition, Mr. Fagan has received the 2009 Humanitarian Award from the Newfoundland Chapter of the Canadian Red Cross, the 2008 Philanthropist of the Year award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the Pinnacle Award of Excellence for an Organizational Leader from the International Association of Business Communicators in 2008. He was also the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2006, and the Business Person Volunteer of the Year by the St. John's Board of Trade in 2002.
Mr. Fagan currently resides in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, with his wife Patricia.
