Port Moody, British Columbia, February 3, 2013—The Honourable James Moore, Member of Parliament (Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam), and Minister Responsible for British Columbia, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and the Honourable Alice Wong, Minister of State (Seniors), celebrated the launch of Tracks in Time, a historical book produced by seniors in collaboration with the Port Moody Heritage Society.
“Our Government recognizes the diversity of skills, knowledge and experience seniors contribute to our society and the economy,” said Minister Moore. “Through the New Horizons for Seniors Program, we are taking action to ensure that seniors maintain a high quality of life and continue to be active members of our communities.”
This project allowed more than 40 local seniors to share their life experiences and work on the research, editing and publication of the book. Most importantly, it gave seniors the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to their community.
“I would like to congratulate all those involved in producing Tracks in Time,” added Minister Moore. “By capturing the stories and events that characterize our community, you are helping to enrich future generations in Port Moody.”
The Port Moody Heritage Society received $24,800 from the Government of Canada through the New Horizons for Seniors Program for the development of the book.
The New Horizons for Seniors Program supports projects led or inspired by seniors who want to make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities. Since its beginning, the Program has funded more than 10 400 projects in hundreds of communities across Canada.

New Horizons for Seniors Program
The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is a federal grants and contributions program that supports projects led or inspired by seniors who make a difference in the lives of others and their communities. Through the NHSP, the Government of Canada encourages seniors to share their knowledge, skills and experiences for the benefit of others. Since it began, the Program has funded more than 10 400 projects in hundreds of communities across Canada.
The most recent call for proposals for community-based projects was launched on May 8, 2012. It closed on June 29, 2012, in all provinces and territories except Quebec, which closed on September 14, 2012, and coincided with a provincial call for proposals.
