Today, Jim Hillyer, Member of Parliament for Lethbridge, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Coaldale Curling Rink under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“I am proud to see the Town of Coaldale benefit from our Government’s continued investment in the renewal of community infrastructure,
” said MP Hillyer. “This investment will help create jobs, growth and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come.
”
The Harper Government’s investment of $96,547 will support the installation of a new refrigeration plant at the Coaldale Curling Rink, as well as other improvements to the mechanical room in the Arena. These upgrades will increase the energy efficiency of the facility and ensure residents can continue to enjoy this recreational space for years to come.
“These are exciting times for residents,
” said Coaldale Mayor, Kim Craig. “Any time we are able to collaborate with the Federal Government on common goals it is great for the community. With significant repairs to our curling rink on the horizon, this announcement comes just in time. It also provides a boost of energy to the Coaldale Granite Club, whose hard work and dedication is bringing the 2014 Senior Master’s Tournament to Town.
”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
