Redcliff, Alberta
Today, LaVar Payne, Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for four recreational sites in the Town of Redcliff under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in communities across Canada," said MP Payne. "By making investments in Redcliff's recreational infrastructure we are helping boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians."
The Harper Government's investment of $40,300 will support the rehabilitation of an outdoor rink at the Brandon Primeau Memorial Park. Upgrades to the outdoor rink's boards and concrete pad will benefit local youth and teens all year round for both winter and summer sports.
"An outdoor rink will benefit both students and the community of Redcliff," said Prairie Rose School Division Trustee Bob Wickens. "The grant from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund will provide residents with a safe and accessible sports structure that can be used for many years to come."
The Harper Government is also investing $50,600 towards enhancements at three additional recreational sites in Redcliff. This investment supports upgrades to the Rec-Tangle Arena, including the replacement of heaters and protective glass. Improvements will also be made to the playground equipment and amenities at both the Rolling Mills and Aggie Mallard parks. These upgrades will ensure that families and visitors can continue to enjoy these recreational sites for years to come.
"The Town of Redcliff is extremely grateful for the investments the federal government continues to make in our community," said Rob Hazelaar, Mayor for the Town of Redcliff. "In this case, federal assistance helps to provide quality recreational and economic opportunities in the Town and adds to the quality of life for our citizens and visitors."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
