Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark Seollal, the Korean New Year:
"Laureen and I extend our best wishes to those celebrating the Korean New Year in Canada and around the world this Sunday.
"Seollal is a truly special occasion for the Korean people, during which time they pay respect to ancestors, gather with friends and family, enjoy traditional feasts, and look forward to the year to come welcoming the Year of the Snake.
"Korean New Year is an excellent opportunity for all Canadians to reflect on the tremendous contributions that members of the Korean community have made to our country. With 2013 being designated the Year of Korea in Canada, it is also an opportunity for Canadians to learn more about Korea's culture and traditions.
"On behalf of Laureen and our family, I hope the Year of the Snake brings health, happiness and prosperity."
