Calgary, Alberta – Today, Deepak Obhrai, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Calgary East, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the East Calgary Twin Arena under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud to see the East Calgary Twin Arena benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund," said MP Obhrai. "This investment will ensure the continued safe delivery of programs and services at this facility, which has been a valued community resource since 1979."
The Harper Government's investment of $67,425 supports upgrades to the flooring and security systems at the East Calgary Twin Arena.
"The East Calgary Twin Arena would like to thank the Government of Canada and the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF) for the investment into our facility," said Jim Kelly, General Manager of the East Calgary Twin Arenas. "This support will not only benefit our building but also the communities this area serves; from youth groups to adult recreational programs alike. Our patrons and staff will enjoy a much safer and cleaner environment for our South East Calgary community and everyone that utilizes our services."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
