Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for 17 projects in East-Central Saskatchewan under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Our Government, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, is continuing to support communities across Canada,” said Minister Yelich. “By improving facilities such as these, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians.”
The Harper Government’s investment of a total of $330,978 will enhance the services provided by the 17 public facilities, which include ice rinks, ball fields, and swimming pools. Projects include upgrades to the Esterhazy Historical Park and D.A. Mackenzie Aquatic Centre, improvements to the Canora Ukrainian Heritage Museum, and renovations to the Togo Community Hall.
“The Town of Esterhazy is thankful for this CIIF investment, which makes upgrades to these two important community facilities - the historical park and the aquatic centre, a possibility,” said Brenda Redmen, Recreation Director with the Town of Esterhazy. “These improvements are much needed and will benefit the community for years to come.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets.
