Today, the Honourable Tim Uppal, Minister of State for Democratic Reform and Member of Parliament for Edmonton—Sherwood Park, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades for the Edmonton Evergreen Community Association under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is pleased to support the Edmonton Evergreen Community Association through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund," said Minister Uppal. "Improvements to the association's facilities will ensure the ongoing delivery of valued programs and services and contribute to the community's long-term growth and prosperity."
The Harper Government's investment of $45,000 will support renovations to the Edmonton Evergreen Community Hall and adjacent senior centre, including kitchen upgrades, flooring and resurfacing an outdoor rink. These improvements will benefit the many residents and visitors who use these facilities for social and recreational activities.
"The Edmonton Evergreen Community Association is honoured to have received support from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund," said Al Innes, Treasurer of the Edmonton Evergreen Community Association. "Through the support of the Federal Government we can now complete necessary upgrades to our Community Hall, Seniors Centre, and Skating facilities. These improvements will ensure that we can continue to provide quality programs in one of Edmonton's best communities."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
