Brampton, ON — The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, today saluted the Punjabi Community Health Services for their leadership in addressing violence against women and girls in advance of their conference on family violence in Brampton, Ontario.
"Our government is committed to ending all forms of violence against women and girls and to holding offenders accountable," said Minister Ambrose. "I commend the Punjabi Community Health Services for organizing this conference, which underscores their leadership and dedication to the well-being of the South Asian community."
"Under Canadian law, women and girls are equal to men and boys and all have the right to live free from violence and abuse," Minister Ambrose added. "The freedom and security to make one's own choices in life form a cornerstone of Canadian democracy."
The Punjabi Community Health Services is hosting their one-day conference, "Holistic Resolution to Family Violence in the South Asian Community" on March 22. On the theme, "Sharing our Achievements and Preparing for the Future," a series of conference workshops will highlight 20 years of positive outcomes for South Asian families experiencing family violence. One of the workshops, "Women and Violence," will examine the situation of women who are victims of abuse.
